About Joan Staples Psychological Services

My work covers the life span experience of the individual adult ie 18 plus from student career choices, self esteem development, relationship and family support through to retirement and preservation of resilient mental health. I use psychometric assessment tools where useful in planning a course of treament or negotiating a path through complex client presentations. I am always happy to work as a guide to further or alternative treatment from professional colleagues. This is about helping my clients to live their own lives positively and to become their own skilled therapists wherever possible. I use up to date psychological tools such as psychodynamic constructs (e.g Transactional Analysis, Compassion Focussed Therapy), Behavioural Therapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy combining thinking patterns and behavioural outcomes) Family and or Work Team Schemas, Relational Mindfulness, and Coaching to help overcome and /or reduce the effects of traumatic life experiences.
