Founding and Early Growth (1945–1960s) - C.E.King Limited was founded by Charles E. King in Central London in 1945. The company’s first breakthrough came in 1958 with the development of its first tablet counting machine, followed by the iconic TB4 tablet counter in 1959, which established King as a trusted supplier in export markets. During the 1960s, King introduced several pioneering machines, including the cotton wool inserting machine (1960), the first capping machine (1963), and the liquid filling machine (1968). In 1969, operations moved to a larger facility in Chertsey, Surrey, supporting the company’s rapid growth. Expansion and International Success (1970s–1980s) - The 1970s saw a strong focus on research and development, expanding King’s portfolio to include multi-head fillers, bench and inline fillers, capping, labelling, and ancillary systems. A second site in Staines supported growing manufacturing operations. In the 1980s, King launched the Technofill electronic liquid filler, which became its flagship model. By 1984, King machines were installed in over 100 countries, highlighting its international reputation. In 1987, C.E.King became a founding member of the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA), strengthening its industry leadership. Innovation and Growth (1990s) - The 1990s brought further innovation, including the modular Kingfisher liquid filling range (1990) and multi-channel electronic tablet counters (1993). C.E.King achieved significant growth milestones, including its first £1 million order in 1994, and cemented its reputation for building efficient, reliable, and high-speed packaging machines used across the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and cosmetics industries. A New Era – DT Industries (1999–2003) - In 1999, C.E.King joined DT Industries Packaging Group, becoming DT King. This partnership integrated King with other major packaging brands—DT Kalish, DT Lakso, DT Merrill, DT Stokes, and DT Swiftpack—creating a powerful global engineering network. With facilities in the UK, USA, Germany, Holland, Puerto Rico, and China, the group employed around 3,000 people and supplied packaging solutions to clients in more than 130 countries, covering the pharmaceutical, personal care, automotive, and agro-chemical sectors. A Legacy of Excellence (2000s–Today) - In 2000, C.E.King relocated to a modern manufacturing facility in Camberley, Surrey, continuing its tradition of British engineering excellence. In 2020, the company expanded and moved to Trade City, Brooklands Business Park, Weybridge, an area renowned for its history of innovation in aviation and motorsport. Today, C.E.King Limited continues to develop innovative packaging systems, specialising in liquid filling and tablet counting machines, as well as cap closing, unscrambling, and cotton inserting systems. The company also integrates third-party equipment to deliver complete, fully automated packaging lines tailored to client needs.
