The Checkers is a French Michelin star restaurant in Montgomery, Mid Wales. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 7.15pm. It sits on the town square in the pretty border town of Montgomery - an undiscovered gem in Mid Wales which is full of history, charm and tranquility. Chef Patron Stephane Borie and his team offer a seasonal set menu (6 course) each evening, while Sarah and Kathryn - farmers daughter from just over the border in Shropshire, offer and warm and informal welcome. Stephane's cooking is classic French at its very best - his apprenticeship in Bordeaux, London and finally at three Michelin star Waterside Inn Bray under Michel Roux Senoir, have served him well - his knowledge, passion and dedication to the trade shines through on the plate. The Checkers has five rooms allowing guests to enjoy dinner followed by a relaxing overnight stay - Egyptian cotton linen, L'Occitane toiletries and homemade cookies all await you.
